When I work with my favorite creatures and delectable treats I am reminded of how art can be fulfilling for both the creator and the viewer. I begin a piece by concentrating on my favorite creatures and how parts of them remind me of pastries. In this particular instance I found the similarities between owls eyes and doughnuts to be quite remarkable. When creating my painting I intentionally draw the owls as they are in my imagination and I portray them in a mixture of comedic situations. You never know if they are sleeping, spacing out or just staring at you. The dots create a type optical illusion that relates to the owls situation. What are they dreaming? What are they thinking? When people see my work, I want them to feel lighthearted and happy. I also want them to see art is not always serious. It can be fun without being whimsical. I think that all artists should create art that demonstrates their personality. Now that I am doing this I feel at peace and proud of what I have produced.
